Scene 1 - Outside Sutekh's Tomb
Professor Marcus Scarman, an archeologist, comes down some stairs into an underground room, holding a lantern and a pick. He is followed by three Egyptian guides.
MARCUS: Great Heavens! This tomb must date back to the first dynasty of the Pharaohs... How many thousands of years, since the high priests sealed the inner chamber, and draped this tapestry over the entrance...?
He pulls aside the cloth covering the wall to reveal a red-centered eye carved into the rock.
MARCUS: (To the guide) Up with your lantern, man! Quickly! Quickly!
The guide steps forwards and holds his lantern up.
MARCUS: It 's the Eye of Horus.
The eye glows.
GUIDE: No, Professor Scarman!
He babbles in another language as he and the other guides run back up the stairs into the daylight.
MARCUS: Come back! Come back! I need your help!... Superstitious savage!... Well, it's too late to turn back now.
He starts to pull at the rock with his pick, and it slides open. He walks into a purple-lighted area, wide-eyed, and then falls to the ground with a cry of pain.
Scene 2 - The TARDIS Control Room
The Doctor is standing next to the control panel, staring into space. Sarah walks in, wearing an old-fashioned, ivory-colored dress.
SARAH: Hey, Doctor! Doctor, look! Look what I found!
The Doctor looks up absent-mindedly.
DOCTOR: Hello, Vicki.
SARAH: What?
DOCTOR: Oh... Where did you get that dress?
SARAH: I just told you.
She twirls.
SARAH: (In a singing tone) Back there in the wardrobe.
The Doctor stands, looking blankly.
SARAH: Why? Don't you like it?
DOCTOR: Yes, yes. I always did. Victoria wore it. She traveled with me for a time.
SARAH: Well as long as Albert didn't wear it.
She laughs. The Doctor still stands expressionless.
SARAH: Oh, come on, Doctor! That's worth a smile, surely! What's wrong? You should be glad to be going home!
DOCTOR: The earth isn't my home Sarah. I'm a Timelord.
Sarah puts her scarf around her head.
SARAH: Oh, I know you're a Timelord.
DOCTOR: You don't understand the implications. I'm not a human being. I walk in eternity.
SARAH: Now what's that supposed to mean?
DOCTOR: It means I've lived something like 750 years.
SARAH: Oh, you'll soon be getting middle-aged!
DOCTOR: (Determined) Yes! And it's about time I found something better to do than run around after the Brigadier!
SARAH: Oh, come on! If you're tired of being UNIT Scientific Adviser, you can always resign.
As she ends her sentence, the TARDIS leans suddenly and violently to the side, knocking the Doctor and Sarah to the floor. After a moment it straightens.
Close-up of Sarah's face.
Sarah's POV: As she sits up, she sees an the evil face of an Egyptian god fade in and then out in front of her in mid-air.
SARAH: What was it?
DOCTOR: The Relative Continuum Stabilizer failed.
SARAH: No, not that! I - I mean the thing!
DOCTOR: What thing?
SARAH: Well, there was a terrible face - just for a second, and then it was gone.
The Doctor's expression doesn't change.
DOCTOR: Hmm? What?
SARAH: You don't believe me, do you?
DOCTOR: Nothing can enter the TARDIS!... Unless...
SARAH: Unless what?
DOCTOR: Mental projection of that force is beyond imagination... Yet it might explain the stabilizer failure. Let's see... I think it was at thins end of the scale.
He moves to the controls. Sarah runs over and grabs his wrist.
SARAH: No, Doctor, don't! Whatever it was, I know it was totally malevolent.
As the Doctor looks up to answer, there is a quiet "boom", and the TARDIS rocks slightly.
DOCTOR: We've landed.
SARAH: Where? Where have we landed?
The Doctor opens the TARDIS doors and they walk out.
Scene 3 - The Mummy-Room
The Doctor ans Sarah walk out of the TARDIS into a room filled with Egyptian sarcophagi. They look curiously around.
DOCTOR: Well, we've materialized at the correct point in space, just not in time.
SARAH: Hmm?
DOCTOR: Temporal reverse. Some vast, impulsive energy's drawn the TARDIS off-course.
SARAH: Are you saying that this is UNIT HQ, but years before I knew it?
The Doctor walks over to the window.
DOCTOR: Yes.
SARAH: But it's so different. It can't be the same house!
DOCTOR: Must be the old priory. The UNIT house was built on the site.
SARAH: The old priory was burnt down, wasn't it?
DOCTOR: Something's very wrong.
Sarah grabs the Doctor's arm.
SARAH: Doctor, I don't like it here.
The Doctor acts as if she hadn't spoken.
DOCTOR: Something's going on contrary to the laws of the universe. I must find out what.
Followed by Sarah, he walks to the door. As he does, strange, organ music starts to play. They look around, surprised.
Scene 4 - The Organ-Room
The scene opens on a sarcophagus. It appears to be shaking. Loud, strange organ music fills the air. The camera zooms out, and it is soon shown that the sarcophagus is a reflection in a small mirror, and it is the mirror, not the sarcophagus, that is shaking. As the camera zooms out further, we see that the mirror is placed on top of an organ, and that the organ is being played stiffly by Namin, a bearded man in a Turkish hat. The enormous wodden doors next to the organ open, and a short, balding butler walks in.
Scene 5 - The Hallway
The Butler, Collins, is outside the door of the organ-room. He knocks gently, and then a little harder, but when he is still not heard, looks over his shoulder and walks in.
Scene 6 - The Organ-Room
COLLINS: Excuse me, sir!
The man at the organ continues playing, ignoring him. Collins takes a step towards him.
NAMIN: Get out! (louder) Get out of here!
He jumps up from the stool and walks away from Collins.
NAMIN: How dare you disturb me? Get out at once!
COLLINS: Uh - uh - I'm sorry, sir, but the gentleman insisted.
NAMIN: Gentleman? What Gentleman?
COLLINS: He's an old friend of Professor Scarman's, sir.
NAMIN: I ordered that no one was to be admitted, Collins! I told you, no callers!
The doors open again, and a man, Dr. Warlock, walks in.
WARLOCK: Don't blame Collins. Forced entry, sir!
NAMIN: This is outrageous!
WARLOCK: Call it what you like. I've a few questions to put to you.
NAMIN: Alright, Collins.
Collins leaves.
NAMIN: So you have some questions?
WARLOCK: My name is Warlock - Doctor Warlock. I live in the village, and Professor Scarman is my oldest friend. I -
NAMIN: I'm Ibrahim Namin.
He holds out his hand.
WARLOCK: I know your name. It's your business that I'm concerned with.
Namin stares blankly.
WARLOCK: Called at the lodge on my way up. Had a word with Scarman's brother, Laurence. He tells me you've had the infernal impudence to bar him from this house.
NAMIN: I am acting under instructions from Professor Scarman.
WARLOCK: I don't believe it!
NAMIN: I have his letter of authority.
He walks over to a table, and picks up a piece of paper.
NAMIN: I have brought back all the relics discovered by the professor on his recent expedition.
Warlock snatches the paper from him.
NAMIN: My orders are to store them safely and allow no one admittance to the house until the professor himself returns. That -
He grabs the letter back -
NAMIN: is an end to it, Dr. Warlock.
WARLOCK: Oh, no, sir! Not by a long chalk!
Scene 6 - The Hallway
Collins is standing at the door, listening. He hears them talking inside.
WARLOCK: I came here to find out what's going on, and I'm not leaving till I do.
There is a clicking sounds from the other side of the hallway. Collins turns.
Collins's POV: The doorhandle on another door in moving.
He walks over to it.
Scene 7 - The Mummy-Room
The Doctor and Sarah are still at the door.
DOCTOR: Why bother to lock an internal door?
SARAH: Well maybe this wing of the house isn't in use. Smells musty enough.
DOCTOR: That isn't all must, Sarah. Some of it's mummy.
Sarah doesn't seem amused. He laughs, and pulls a small metal object from his pocket and holds it up.
DOCTOR: French pick-lock? Never fails. Belonged to Marie Antoinette. Charming lady.
He kneels to reach the keyhole.
DOCTOR: Lost her head, poor thing.
They hear the sound of a key being turned in the door from the other side. Sarah turns and runs, followed by the Doctor.

Scene 9 - The Corridor Outside the Mummy-Room

Scene 10 - The Mummy-Room
The Doctor nods to Sarah to signal that he's playing a game. He fingers his scarf as he speaks.
DOCTOR: Of course, it would make an ideal Headquarters for some paramilitary organization. This room could easily be turned into a laboratory.
Sarah touches his arm.
DOCTOR: Oh, hello!
COLLINS: Who are you? How did you get in here?
DOCTOR: Through the window.
He points, and Sarah turns to look.
DOCTOR: I understood the property was for sale. No?
COLLINS: Ah, you're not fooling me, sir. You came with Doctor Warlock, didn't you?
DOCTOR: Did we?
COLLINS: He asked you to scout round whilst he kept His Nibs busy.
He looks over his shoulder.
COLLINS: (Quietly) Listen. If you're a friend of Dr. Warlock's, sir, tell him to watch out.
SARAH: Well watch out for what?
COLLINS: The Egyptian. There's no knowing what he might do. He's got the temper of the Devil himself.
DOCTOR: Egyptian, eh? Is this where he keeps his relatives?
He motions to the sarcophagi behind him.
COLLINS: It's no joke, sir. He's only been here a few days, but - I - I wouldn't be staying, but, well, situations aren't easy to find at - at my age.
He looks nervously around the door.
DOCTOR: What are you afraid of?
COLLINS: He locked this wing. he didn't know there was a second key. If he were to find me along here, let alone you two, he'd - he'd go stark raving mad, sir.
DOCTOR: I see. In that case, we'd better leave.
He heads towards the door, but Collins stops him.
COLLINS: Not this way, sir. Better go, er, the way you came.
He points to the window.
COLLINS: He might see you.
The Doctor moves his mouth silently in a few words to Sarah.
DOCTOR: (To Collins) As you wish.
He walks to the window, with Sarah behind him.
COLLINS: Remember to tell Dr. Warlock what I said, sir.
The Doctor turns with one foot on the window sill.
DOCTOR: (Quietly) Don't worry. I'll remember.
He jumps off the window sill.
Scene 11 - Outside the House
The Doctor jumps from the window. Sarah climbs onto the edge and takes the Doctor's hand before following him. She lands badly and takes a few steps before following him along the side of the house, looking around and still holding his hand. Collins is watching out the window. The front of the sarcophagus behind him is slowly pushed off from the inside.
Scene 13 - Outside the House
The Doctor and Sarah, still low down, come round the corner. They can hear Warlock and Namin still talking.
WARLOCK: Utter humbug! That letter's a bogus fabrication if ever I saw one!
NAMIN: Are you alleging that it is forged?
WARLOCK: I am, sir! And I intend to prove it.
The Doctor and Sarah stop under the window of the organ-room.
NAMIN: I warn you, Doctor Warlock, do not interfere.
The Dovtoe leans up to the edge of the window.
WARLOCK: Are you threatening me?
Scene 14 - Organ-Room
NAMIN: It is not I who threaten. There are ancient powers gathering in this place.
He looks at the sarcophagus behind him.
NAMIN: Powers beyond the comprehension of unbelievers.
WARLOCK: Ancient balderdash!
He walks over to Namin.
WARLOCK: Now let me warn you, Namin, unless you give me some straight answers, I'm going to the police.
NAMIN: To say what? That a foreigner is living in Professor Scarman's house?
WARLOCK: To say that he's not been seen for weeks; that his baggage is lying unclaimed in his hotel. Oh, yes, I've had some inquiries made in Cairo.
A horrible yell comes through the house. Both of them turn and start to run to the door.
WARLOCK: What the Devil?
Once they're out of the room, the Doctor climbs in the window, with Sarah outside behind him.
Scene 15 - The Corridor Outside the Mummy-Room

NAMIN: The fool!

WARLOCK: Poor fellow! He's been strangled!
Namin does not seem to care. He looks up.
NAMIN: The gods have returned! I, Ibrahim Namin, servant of the true faith, rejoice in their power!
WARLOCK: Get the police.
He gets up
WARLOCK: His assailant can't have gone far.
NAMIN: You blind, pathetic fool! The servants of the All-Powerful have arisen! When the temple is cleansed of all unbelievers, the High One himself will come among us! This is how it was written.
Warlock looks at him as if he is insane.
WARLOCK: Yes, I see. Well, I still think that we -
He jumps. Namin is holding a gun pointed at him.
NAMIN: You should've listened when I told you to leave, Warlock. Now you have seen too much, You must be the second unbeliever to die.
He is about to pull the trigger when the Doctor comes up behind him and pulls him down with his scarf. The gun goes off, and while the Doctor is holding him down, Sarah runs in an helps Warlock out.
SARAH: Let me help you! Quick!
The Doctor runs out after then. Namin gets up and picks up his gun. He looks at it evilly, then stands and takes the front off the sarcophagus to reveal a mummy. He stands in front of it and points his ring at it. The ring starts to bleep and flash, and he says a few words in a forgein language. He lowers his arm, and the mummy starts to move. It steps out of the sarcophagus.
Scene 17 - The Garden
The Doctor and Sarah are helping Warlock, who is holding his blood-covered hand over his chest and breathing heavily. He stops, stopping them with him.
WARLOCK: No, it's no good. No. I can't go much further.
DOCTOR: You must. We're sitting ducks if we stay here.
WARLOCK: Get to the lodge. Tell Laurence.
DOCTOR: Laurence?
WARLOCK: Marcus Scarman's brother. He knows -
He grunts and staggers, letting go of Sarah and leaning hard on the Doctor -
WARLOCK: knows me.
To Sarah's concern, he falls as she and the Doctor try to hold him up. She gasps as he lands, and they lay him, panting, on the grass.
DOCTOR: He needs help, Sarah. You go ahead. Find the lodge.
SARAH: But what about you?
DOCTOR: I'll be alright.
SARAH: Okay.

NAMIN: The All-Powerfull descends. O noble god, your servant hears you.
He walks away, followed by the mummy, and the Doctor and Warlock watch them go.
Sarah and Laurence run through the woods to them. They come to the ditch and crouch down.
LAURENCE: Oh, my dear chap! Is he badly hurt?
DOCTOR: He'll be alright if we can staunch the bleeding.
LAURENCE: We'd better get him back to the lodge.
The Doctor and Laurence start to help Warlock up.
SARAH: Doctor, listen. I saw a mummy - a walking mummy!
DOCTOR: Mummies are embalmed, eviscerated corpses. They don't walk.
SARAH: But this one did!

SARAH: Just try and rest then.
He nods and closes his eyes, and she turns.
LAURENCE: (To the Doctor) Well, in view of what you've told me, I'm going to fetch the police.
DOCTOR: No.
Laurence looks surprised and confused.
DOCTOR: This is much too grave a matter for the police, Mr. Scarman.
LAURENCE: Too grave?
DOCTOR: Yes. It would only hamper my investigations.
Sarah sits down in a chair by the fire.
LAURENCE: Your investigations?
DOCTOR: Yes! Why do you think I'm here? Something's interfering with time, Mr. Scarman, and time is my business.
LAURENCE: Who are you?
SARAH: Well I'm Sarah Jane Smith. I'm a journalist.
She holds out her hand. He shakes it.
LAURENCE: Journalist?
SARAH: Uh-huh.
She nods, and he looks over his shoulder at the Doctor.
LAURENCE: Who is your companion?
SARAH: My companion? Oh, that's just the Doctor. We travel in time, Mr. Scarman. I'm really from 1980.
LAURENCE: That is utterly preposterous, Miss Smith.
SARAH: Yes.
She holds up her hands.
SARAH: Sorry.
She claps her hands back together.
DOCTOR: An interesting contraption.
LAURENCE: Kindly leave that alone, sir! That apparatus is finely adjusted, and, furthermore, is a receiver containing highly dangerous electrical current.
The Doctor is sitting at a table, looking at a machine.
DOCTOR: Yes, so I see. What year is this?
LAURENCE: What year?
DOCTOR: Well it's a simple enough question, surely.
LAURENCE: Are you telling em you don't know what ye -
DOCTOR: Well, if I knew, I wouldn't ask! Don't be obtuse, man!
LAURENCE: Nineteen Hundred and Eleven.
DOCTOR: Ah! Splendid! An excellent year. One of my favorites, yes. I really must congratulate you, mr. Scarman.
LAURENCE: On what?
DOCTOR: Inventing the radio telescope 50 years early.
LAURENCE: That, sir, is a Marconiscope. Its purpose -
DOCTOR: Is to receive radio emissions from the stars.
LAURENCE: How could you possibly know that?
DOCTOR: Well you see, Mr. Scarman, I have the advantage of being slightly ahead of you - sometimes behind you, but normally ahead of you.
Laurence turns his head, looking completely shocked and painfully confused.
LAURENCE: Oh, I see.
DOCTOR: I'm sure you don't, Mr. Scarman, but it's very nice of you to try. Now, why don't you show me how this gadget works?
LAURENCE: Do you mean you want me to -
The Doctor nods slightly.
DOCTOR: Mm. Yes, please. Just a little demonstration.
Laurence looks bewildered but pleased with himself. He flips some switches on the machine and pulls a lever, then stands back. There is a puff of smoke and the wheel on the machine starts to spin with a whining noise.
DOCTOR: Amazing. That's really amazing.
He smiles at Laurence, who looks proud, and puts the lever back up. The wheel spins faster. he flips the switches back, but they make no difference. There is a light bulb on it that is shining brightly.
LAURENCE: I can't switch it off!
He unplugs a small plug, but the machine still goes on. The light bulb bursts into flames and the glass melts. Sarah laughs, and the doctor fans the smoking machine with his hat.
SARAH: Oh, very impressive!
She hides her face behind her arm.
LAURENCE: It's never done that before!
The Doctor kneels.
DOCTOR: Fascinating. A regular pattern repeated over and over again.
SARAH: Like an SOS?
DOCTOR: I wonder...
Sarah gets up and comes over to the table.
DOCTOR: Where was your aerial tuned?
LAURENCE: Mars. Why?
DOCTOR: Oh, I just thought I'd verify the signal.
He takes a small walkie-talkie-like device from his pocket.
DOCTOR: No harm in double-checking.
He extends the device's aerial and flips a switch on it. It starts to emit the sound of a Morse-type signal.
LAURENCE: What's that you have, Doctor?
DOCTOR: Well, in principal it's exactly the same as the gadget you've invented. Only less cumbersome.
He looks down at the device.
DOCTOR: Yes. It is the same signal. Obviously automatic. Well, if it's a message, it shouldn't be difficult to decipher.
He takes a notebook and pencil from his coat.
DOCTOR: They'd want to make it easy.
LAURENCE: Who would?
SARAH: Whoever transmitted it.
DOCTOR: Now let's see...
He looks at the lines on the paper of Laurence's machine.
DOCTOR: This pattern occurs three times in one line. let's call that E, the commonest letter in your language.

SARAH: Sutekh?
DOCTOR: Better known to you as Set?
SARAH: Of course. Egyptian mythology! Set or Sutekh was one of their gods!... He was killed by Horus, god of light.
LAURENCE: Yes but Egyptology, and Mars?
DOCTOR: If I'm right, the world is facing the greatest peril in its history.
He gets up and walks to the door. Sarah jumps up from the floor.
SARAH: Hey! Wait for me!
DOCTOR: (Firmly) No. The force that are being summoned into corporeal existence in that house are more terrible and more dangerous than anything even I have even encountered. Stay here!
LAURENCE: I've an old hunting rifle that might come in useful.
DOCTOR: I never carry firearms.
He walks out through the door. Laurence walks quickly across the room and grab the gun and a box of ammunition. As he does, Sarah runs out the door.
LAURENCE: What I meant was, that I should feel better I could bring it.
Sarah pops her head back in.
SARAH: Bring it.
Laurence walks towards to door.

He walks swiftly across the room and kneels in front of the mummies.
NAMIN: All-High, All-Powerful, most noble lord, thy humble servant welcomes thee.
He crosses his arms on his chest and bows his head. The music gets faster and faster and higher than ever as a black-clothed figure fades into view in the tunnel of moving colors. The figure approaches.
The Doctor is watching from the door. wide-eyed.

NAMIN: Master, at last you are here. I, Ibrahim Namin, and all my forebears, have served you faithfully through all the thousands of years that you have slept. We have guarded the secret of your tomb.
The figure walks up to him.
MARCUS: Stand. Look upon my face.
Namin gently shakes his head.
NAMIN: Great One, Lord Sutekh, I dare not.
MARCUS: Look.
Namin slowly raises his face. As he sees the face of the figure, he tightens his hands into fists and sits stiffly.
MARCUS: Is this the face of Sutekh?
NAMIN: Master, spare me. Spare me! I am a true servant of the great Sutekh!
MARCUS: I am the servant of Sutekh. He needs no other.
The figure reaches out his hands towards Namin, who trembles and whimpers. He puts his hands down on his shoulders. Namin screams, and the hands start to smoke.
The Doctor, Sarah, and Laurence are all watching at the door, their faces one-over-the-other.

He and the mummies walk towards the doors.
Scene 4 - The Hallway
DOCTOR: (Whispered) Quick! Hide!
He runs into an alcove behind a statue and Laurence and Sarah run out of view.
The organ-room's door opens and Marcus comes out with his pot, followed by the mummies. They walk out of the front door. The Doctor comes warily out of his hiding place, looks out the door, and taps a trunk next to it with the rifle he's holding. The lid is opened by Sarah and Laurence, who are inside, slowly at first, but then it's pushed up the whole way. They climb out and Laurence closes it.
SARAH: (To the Doctor) Where are they going?
DOCTOR: To set up a deflection field around the house. He's obviously planned every step.
LAURENCE: Who? Marcus?
DOCTOR: No - Sutekh.
Laurence takes back his gun as the Doctor walks down the hallway, and he and Sarah follow him.
Scene 5 - The Organ-Room
The Doctor opens the doors and the Doctor stops in the doorway.
DOCTOR: Sutekh is break free from his ancient bonds. If he succeeds, he'll destroy the whole world.
Laurence closes the doors, and the Doctor kneels by Namin's body.
SARAH: You mean Sutekh is still alive?
DOCTOR: He destroyed his own planet, Phaester Osiris, and left a trail of havoc across half the galaxy. Horus and the rest of the Osirans must've finally cornered him on Earth.
SARAH: In Egypt?
DOCTOR: The wars of the gods entered into mythology. The whole of Egyptian culture is founded upon the Osiran pattern.
the Doctor goes up to the sarcophagus.
LAURENCE: I'm afraid this is beyond me.
SARAH: Yeah, it's beyond me, too.
DOCTOR: Ah!
Sarah and Laurence look at him questioningly.
DOCTOR: Found it.
SARAH: What?
DOCTOR: The loadstone that drew the TARDIS off-course.
He indicates the sarcophagus.
LAURENCE: Th-th - that's not a loadstone! That's just a sarcophagus!
DOCTOR: No, it isn't. It's the entrance to a time-space tunnel.
SARAH: Leading where?
DOCTOR: To Sutekh.
Sarah and Laurence stare in amazement. the Doctor turns back to the sarcophagus and touches it with his hands. He turns around as he is pulled towards the inside of the colored tunnel.
SARAH: Doctor!
Sarah runs towards him with Laurence behind her.
DOCTOR: Keep back!
the Doctor desperately fights the pulling as he tries to take something from his pocket. He finally removes a a small object and throws it into the tunnel. There is a flash and a small explosion, and the pull stops. He holds his head in his hands and falls to the ground. Sarah and Laurence try to catch him as he falls, and kneel next to him.
Scene 6 - The Woods
It is dusk. A poacher walks through the trees with a gun and a sack. He gets down to take a rabbit out of a trap. Just as he removes it, he hears another trap nearby shutting loudly. He picks up his gun and walks slowly in the direction of the sounds of something coming down onto the forest floor repeatedly.
Poacher's POV: A mummy is caught in a trap, and is lifting its leg to try and free itself.
He stares in shock, and then watches as it bends down and opens the trap, and then walks away unharmed. He backs into a bush, and then runs away, grabbing his bag and rabbit as he goes.
Scene 7 - The Organ-Room
The Doctor is unconscious. Sarah takes his head ans shakes it.
SARAH: (Whispered) Doctor!
She shakes his head again and then his shoulders. Laurence pulls back his eyelids.
SARAH: Doctor, wake up, please!
She takes the Doctor's hand and starts rubbing it.
LAURENCE: It's no good. He took the full force of the blast.
Sarah suddenly looks towards the door.
SARAH: they're bound to come back soon. We're trapped!
Laurence gets up and runs across the room.
SARAH: Where are you going?
Laurence starts to pull around the edges of the paneling on the wall.
LAURENCE: (Grunting) There's a priest hole here somewhere! Marcus and I discovered it when we were boys.
Finally a section of the paneling swings back in front of him. Sarah starts to try and pull the Doctor.
LAURENCE: It isn't very large, I'm afraid.
SARAH: No, well he is, though, so come and give me a hand.
Laurence runs over and with great difficulty they take him under the arms and start to drag him to the hiding place.
Scene 8 - The Woods
The poacher runs through the wood. Suddenly he appears to run into something and falls. He gets up, confused, with his gun, and then puts it down again. Then he walks carefully up to where he was knocked down and puts his hands up to it. They hit something and he waves them around in pain. He looks around, bewildered, at the invisible wall, and then picks up a stick, and throws it at it. It flies off.
POACHER: Holy Moses!
He picks up his things and puts his hat back on and then runs back into the woods.
Scene 9 - The Lodge
Warlock lies on the couch, awake. Someone rattles at the door.
WARLOCK: is that you, Laurence?
Marcus enters and slowly walks up to him.
WARLOCK: Marcus! Marcus, my dear friend, you're back!
As he speaks he realizes that Marcus is not himself.
MARCUS: Why are you here?
WARLOCK: What? What's the matter?... Well, for goodness' sakes, old chap, don't you recognize me?
He gets up.
MARCUS: Warlock?
Warlock looks relieved.
WARLOCK: That's right. We've all been dreadfully worried about you!
He puts his hands on Marcus's shoulder. Marcus looks at it as if it shouldn't be there.
MARCUS: I came to find the other Scarman.
He speaks harshly and gruffly, and slowly as though he cannot find the words.
WARLOCK: The other - you mean your brother, Laurence?
MARCUS: The human.
WARLOCK: Look here, old chap. if this is some kind of macabre joke -
MARCUS: Where is the other Scarman -
He pauses as if finding it hard to speak -
MARCUS: Warlock?
Warlock opens and closes his mouth several times before speaking.
WARLOCK: Laurence went up to the house. that Egyptian servant of yours took a pot shot at me!
Marcus looks as if he doesn't understand.
WARLOCK: Laurence, and the Doctor, and some very plucky young girl went off to deal with the brute.
He pauses, worried, and goes to the door.
WARLOCK: They've been gone a Devil of a time, mind you. I... hope nothing's amiss.
MARCUS: Who is the Doctor:
WARLOCK: One of Laurence's friends, I imagine. Some sort of scientist.
MARCUS: Why does he interfere?
WARLOCK: (Harshly) Interfere? Now, look here, Marcus -
MARCUS: All humans inside the deflection barrier will be destroyed.
Warlock stares in disbelief for a moment and then shouts with clenched fists.
WARLOCK: For Heaven's sake, Marcus, what's wrong with you?!
A mummy walks into the room and walks towards him. He backs away.
MARCUS: Destroy this human.
the mummy corners Warlock and reaches out. It grabs him and throws him onto the couch, and then approaches him.
WARLOCK: Laurence! Laurence! No!
The mummy lifts its huge fist to hit him. He screams horribly.
Scene 10 - Outside the Lodge

Scene 11 - The Priest Hole
Sarah has the Doctor's head on her lap. He moves slightly.
SARAH: (Whispered) He's coming round.
DOCTOR: Paralex coil...
LAURENCE: What?
DOCTOR: I never expected that. A simple trap... Blew up in my face.
LAURENCE: He's delirious.
Sarah raises her hand.
SARAH: No.
DOCTOR: Never underestimate Sutekh. He thinks of everything.
He opens his eyes.
DOCTOR: Where are we?
SARAH: (Whispered) Hiding!
DOCTOR: Where?
LAURENCE: A priest hole.
DOCTOR: In a Victorian Gothic folly? Nonsense!
Sarah tries to get him off her lap.
SARAH: So pedantic at a time like this! Does it matter?
The Doctor sits up and Laurence hold up his lantern.
DOCTOR: If only I knew the exact physical location of Sutekh. (To Laurence) Where was you brother's expedition bound?
LAURENCE: Saqqara, I think. He wrote to say that he'd discovered a blind pyramid in that region and believed it contained a mastaba.
SARAH: What?
LAURENCE: An underground burial chamber.
DOCTOR: Saqqara... To vague... Yet it might be our only chance.
SARAH: To do what?
DOCTOR: Sutekh is controlling operations here by mental force. With the equipment at the lodge, I could transmit a jamming signal.
SARAH: And block his power?
DOCTOR: Well, I... With an etheric impulse projected along precisely the right axis, yes. Otherwise, it...
SARAH: No good.
the Doctor seems to realize something.
DOCTOR: The Egyptian's ring!
LAURENCE: What?
DOCTOR: It's a slave relay. Calculating the reverse polarization should be child's play... Why didn't I think of it -
SARAH: Shh! Listen!
Scene 12 - The Organ-Room
Marcus and the three mummies walk in. Marcus points to Namin's body.
MARCUS: Remove this carcass.
Two of the mummies go to pick up Namin's body, while one stands next to Marcus, who is looking all around as though he's smelling the air.
MARCUS: There are other humans within these walls. Seek and kill them.
The mummy next to him goes out the door, followed by the other two, dragging Namin's body by the arms. Marcus walks towards the priest hole suspiciously.

LAURENCE: Marcus!
The Doctor and Sarah pull him down, and the Doctor shakes his head.
Scene 16 - The Organ-Room
Time seems to wind backwards as the smoke goes back into Marcus's body. He turns and walks to the window. He stares at the poacher.
POACHER: Professor Scarman!
The poacher runs away, and Marcus looks into the air.
MARCUS: Seek, and kill.
He watches as two mummies begin to pursue the poacher across the lawn outside, and then turns and walks out the door. When he is gone, the door of the priest hole opens, and its occupants walks out. The Doctor goes to the door and looks into the hallway.
DOCTOR: Alright. All clear.
Sarah and Laurence run up to him.
LAURENCE: (To the Doctor) Where are we going?
DOCTOR: Shh... To find that Egyptian.
He walks out the door.
Scene 17 - The Hallway
The Doctor, followed by Sarah and Laurence, comes out of the organ-room.

The Doctor comes in and kneels by Namin's body. Sarah kneels next to him.
SARAH: What do you think they're doing?
DOCTOR: I'm not sure yet.
The Doctor takes the ring off the body.
LAURENCE: This is exceedingly interesting, Doctor!
DOCTOR: Hmm?
Laurence is lifting a part similar to the ones the mummies had out of a crate.
LAURENCE: It appears to be some kind of machinery.
DOCTOR: You're right, yes. That's a resonating tuner - part of an anti-gravity drive.
Laurence examines it closely. The Doctor suddenly realizes what it's for.
DOCTOR: They must be building a rocket!
SARAH: Egyptian mummies building rockets? That's crazy.
DOCTOR: They're not mummies. They're service robots.
SARAH: What?
DOCTOR: Machines!
SARAH: Machines?! Alright. Then, why are machines building rockets?
DOCTOR: So that Sutekh can escape from the power of Horus.
SARAH: Where's Sutekh now?
DOCTOR: Exactly where Horus left him 7000 years ago: trapped beneath a pyramid and powerless to move.
Something bangs in the corridor outside. The Doctor and Sarah run behind the TARDIS in the corner of the room. Laurence readies his gun and stands just in view.
Scene 21 - The Corridor Outside the Mummy-Room
Marcus and his two mummies are returning.

Scene 23 - The TARDIS Control Room
Laurence looks around, shocked.
LAURENCE: (Awed) Great Heavens! This is... unbelievable!... (To the Doctor) Totally unbelievable!
DOCTOR: You're going to say it transcends all the normal laws of physics.
LAURENCE: I am, yes. I mean it does. I mean, it's - i - it's preposterous!
DOCTOR: Isn't it? I often think dimensional transcendentalism is preposterous, but it works. Would you like to look around?
LAURENCE: May I?
DOCTOR: Please.
Laurence skips off in child-like happiness. Sarah is leaning against the door, looking sadly thoughtful. She gets up and walks to the Doctor, who is facing away from her.
SARAH: Well, now that we are here, why don't you tune up 1980, and we can... well, leave.
She looks up at the Doctor, who turns to face her.
DOCTOR: I can't.
SARAH: Oh... Well, why can't you?
DOCTOR: Because if Sutekh isn't stopped, he'll destroy the world.
SARAH: But he didn't, did he? I mean, we know the world didn't end in 1911!
DOCTOR: Do we?
SARAH: Yes, of course we do!
She suddenly looks worried.
DOCTOR: Alright. If we leave now, let's see what the world would look like in 1980.
He moves a few controls.
Laurence comes back in. He looks innocently excited.
LAURENCE: I say! This is like something by that novelist chap, Mr. Wells!
There is the small bump of the TARDIS landing. The Doctor moves another control, and Sarah turns as the doors open, and then looks back to the Doctor. Outside is a desert wasteland, with howling winds, dark skies, and lightening. She looks out, and Laurence rushes to her side. The wind blows her hair as she stands, shocked, in the doorway. She backs in, and the Doctor closes the doors again. The turns to the Doctor.
SARAH: (Uncertain and upset) It's a trick!
DOCTOR: No.
He shakes his head.
DOCTOR: That's the world as Sutekh would leave it: a desolate planet circling a dead sun.
Sarah looks confused.
SARAH: It can't be!... I'm from 1980.
DOCTOR: Every point in time has its alternatives, Sarah. You've looked into alternative time.
LAURENCE: Fascinating. Do you mean the future can be chosen, Doctor?
DOCTOR: Not chosen - shaped. The actions of the present fashion the future.
LAURENCE: So a man can change the course of history?
DOCTOR: To a small extent... It takes a being of Sutekh's almost limitless power to destroy the future... (To Sarah) Well?
SARAH: We've got to go back.
The Doctor smiles at her and nods.
DOCTOR: Yes.
He moves the controls again.
Scene 24 - The Woods
Two mummies stand, looking around. The poacher is hiding behind a tree. He gets his breath, looks at them, and runs off. The mummies follow him speedily.
He hides behind a bush and sees them coming, still quickly. He jumps up and starts running again. Suddenly he hits the invisible barrier again, and falls to the ground. He gets up and runs in another direction. But the mummies are gaining on him. They walk faster and faster.
Scene 25 - The Mummy-Room
Laurence is outside, and the Doctor is helping Sarah out of the window.
DOCTOR: Keep below the level of the window, huh?

Scene 26 - The Organ-Room
Marcus is standing in front of the glowing sarcophagus with his arms crossed over his chest.
MARCUS: Three humans within the deflection barrier have been destroyed. There are others.
He is answered by Sutekh's voice.
SUTEKH: Eliminate them.
MARCUS: The servicers are searching for them, but assembly of the rocket is being delayed.
SUTEKH: Destruction of the humans must not be allowed to the delay the completion of the missile. That is of paramount importance.
MARCUS: Your orders will be executed, Sutekh. I will recall to of the servicers to the rocket assembly.
He bows, and walks out. The Sarcophagus stops glowing.
Scene 27 - The Lodge
Sarah stands looking shocked and saddened. She is looking at the body of Warlock. She covers his face with the blanket.
Laurence is trying to find words.
LAURENCE: I - I can't believe that my brother... He and Dr. Warlock were the closest of friends.
DOCTOR: Well if you can stop thinking of him as your brother it'll make it a great deal easier for you.
LAURENCE: But he is my brother.
DOCTOR: From the moment he entered Sutekh's tomb, he became subject to Sutekh's will.
LAURENCE: (Confused and upset) What does that mean?
DOCTOR: As a human being, Marcus Scarman no longer exists.
He touches Laurence on the shoulder as he leans his face into his hand.
DOCTOR: He's simply the embodiment of Sutekh's power. He's given the paralyzed Sutekh arms, and legs - means to escape.
The Doctor sits down at the table an starts to work on the machine.
SARAH: Well if Sutekh is so totally evil, why didn't Horus and the other Osirans destroy him?
She sits down by the fireplace and puts a hand on Laurence's arm.
DOCTOR: It was against their code. To have killed him would've meant that they were no better than he... so they simply imprisoned him.
SARAH: How?
DOCTOR: Force field, controlled from a power source on Mars.
LAURENCE: Mars?
DOCTOR: Yes. That's where the signal was beamed from, remember?
LAURENCE: But how?
DOCTOR: Well, when your brother stumbled into Sutekh's tomb, the monitoring system on Mars detected the fact and it triggered off an alarm system.
SARAH: The rocket those robots are building!
The Doctor nods.
DOCTOR: Will be aimed at the power source on Mars. If those warheads reach their target, Sutekh will have released himself.
LAURENCE: To destroy the world.
DOCTOR: Not only this world - anywhere that life is found!... Right. All I need now is a magneto.
Laurence taps his fingers together in thought.
LAURENCE: A magneto... Of course!
He jumps up. Sarah gets up and walks over to the Doctor.
SARAH: What are you going to do?
DOCTOR: If I can block the mental beam, Scarman will collapse.
SARAH: You mean die?
She sits on the corner of the table.
DOCTOR: Well, he's not alive now in any real sense. Only Sutekh animates him.
Laurence in getting down to take something out of a cupboard. He hears them talking and stop to listen.
DOCTOR: Deprived of his outside contact, Sutekh will be as powerless as the day Horus left him.
Laurence looks concerned for him brother. He gets up and hands something to the Doctor.
LAURENCE: Here you are, Doctor.
The Doctor takes it.
DOCTOR: Splendid.
A terrible scream sounds from somewhere outside. Sarah puts her hand stiffly out on the desk, and Laurence runs to the door.
LAURENCE: What was that?
Scene 28 - Outside the Lodge
The poacher has fallen on the path. The two mummies stand over him. They pull him up and squeeze him to death between their huge chests. As they do, a shot rings out. they turn and let him drop. Laurence is standing outside the lodge, aiming him gun for another shot. They start coming towards him. He shoots again, but they are not harmed. They continue to advance. He shoots again. She bangs on the door with her hands and screams as the mummies approach.
Scene 29 - The Lodge
Sarah is inside with the Doctor and Laurence.
DOCTOR: Quick Sarah, switch on the power!
Sarah runs towards the machine, but Laurence grabs her.
LAURENCE: No! No, you'll destroy my brother!
Sarah fights desperately to free herself.
DOCTOR: Switch on!
Sarah jabs Laurence in the side with her elbow and runs to the machine. She pulls the lever down.

She grabs him, but is flung into the other one across the room. She falls to the floor and gets up instantly, but the other mummy is walking towards her with its hands out.

Sarah looks around frantically. The Doctor lies on the floor, holding the second mummy's leg to stop it from getting at her.
DOCTOR: The ring, Sarah! Use the ring!
She grabs the ring from the table and points it at the mummy.
SARAH: (Screaming) Stop!
DOCTOR: Return to control!
SARAH: Return to control! Return to control!
The mummy slowly walks back out the door. Sarah lowers the ring as the Doctor gets up and goes to Laurence.
DOCTOR: (To Laurence) Are you alright?
LAURENCE: Yes, I think so.
DOCTOR: You don't deserve to be. You nearly got us all killed!
LAURENCE: I'm sorry!
The Doctor kneels and looks at the machine, while Sarah sits on the corner of the table, breathing fast.
DOCTOR: What's worse, you've probably wrecked what was my only chance of stopping Sutekh.
LAURENCE: Forgive me, Doctor. I was thinking of my brother.
DOCTOR: Listen! What's walking about out there is no longer your brother. It is simply an animated human cadaver. Animated by Sutekh.
He stands up.
DOCTOR: (Harshly) Do you understand?
Laurence nods.
DOCTOR: And if Sutekh succeeds in freeing himself, the consequences will be incalculable... Stay here!
He walks out the door. Sarah gets up and runs after him, but Laurence grabs her arm.
LAURENCE: Where's he going?
SARAH: To find out what Scarman's doing!
She pulls his hand off her arms and runs through the door. Laurence puts his hands in his pockets, looking upset.

MARCUS: I know nothing, master.
Scene 3 - Sutekh's Tomb
Sutekh is talking to Marcus on the screen.
SUTEKH: I detected electro-magnetic radiation. The source was within the deflection barrier.
MARCUS: There are some humans here who've eluded the servicers. If work on the missile is delayed, they can be found, and destroyed.
SUTEKH: No. The missile must be projected at the hour appointed. My freedom comes before all. Immediately thereafter you will find, and kill the humans.
MARCUS: As you direct, master, so it shall be.
Marcus bows and walks away.
Scene 4 - The Garden
The Doctor walks carefully round a corner and through a large gate. He pauses at the next corner and then proceeds to a smaller, black gate, and looks through the opening from the side.

Sarah comes up behind him and looks over his shoulder.
SARAH: (Whispered) What is it?
The Doctor turns slightly.
DOCTOR: It's an Osiran war missile. And almost complete, by the look of it.
SARAH: You mean that thing can fly?
The Doctor nods slightly.
DOCTOR: It transposes with its projection - pyramid power.
Their POV: The mummies are still walking around the missile. Marcus comes up.
The Doctor nudges Sarah and turns around.
DOCTOR: (Whispered) Back!

LAURENCE: Did you find out anything?
Sarah's footsteps come through the door.
SARAH: Only that time is short.
The Doctor is looking at the mummy. He has his finger on a little red pyramid on its back.
DOCTOR: Cytronic Induction.
SARAH: Hmm?
DOCTOR: The robots are drawing their energy from a cytronic particle accelerator... Which must be in Sutekh's tomb.
He straightens.
SARAH: So?
DOCTOR: So, put that out of action, and he'd have no workforce.
He walks across the room to Laurence.
SARAH: And, no missile.
Laurence looks up.
LAURENCE: But Sutekh's tomb is in Egypt.
DOCTOR: Scarman came here through the time-space tunnel. it's a two-way mechanism.
SARAH: But if you go through it, Sutekh'll kill you!
LAURENCE: Wouldn't it be better if -
DOCTOR: No, it wouldn't!
He sits down in a chair opposite Laurence and mumbles something to do with Sutekh and the missile.
DOCTOR: (To Laurence, and annoyed) Wouldn't what be better?
LAURENCE: Wouldn't it be less risky simply to blow up the projectile.
The Doctor nods slightly.
DOCTOR: Mm. With what?
LAURENCE: Blasting gelignite.
The Doctor leans forward.
DOCTOR: You have some?
LAURENCE: No, but I believe Clemence had a store.
DOCTOR: Clemence?
LAURENCE: The poacher. I - I heard him fishing only a few nights ago.
DOCTOR: Where did he keep it?
LAURENCE: I'm told he had a hut on the other side of the wood.
DOCTOR: Let's go, Sarah.
He gets up and goes to the door with Sarah. Laurence looks up sadly.
LAURENCE: Shall I show you the way?
DOCTOR: No. We'll find it.
LAURENCE: You think I'll let you down again, don't you?
The Doctor comes up to him and puts a hand on his shoulder.
DOCTOR: Mr. Scarman, if you want to help, start getting the bindings off that robot.
He goes back to the door and leaves with Sarah. Laurence gets up and goes over to the mummy, and starts to pull away its bandages.

DOCTOR: Careful!
Sarah stops. He walks forwards, holding his stick out in front of him.
DOCTOR: Walking into a deflection barrier is like walking into a brick wall.
SARAH: Painful!
She walks with the Doctor.
DOCTOR: Mm!
After a few yards, the stick hits something that makes a strange noise. They stop.
DOCTOR: Ah!
He turns to Sarah.
DOCTOR: There we are. Now all we've got to do is find the door!
He moves his stick along the invisible barrier, which beeps, and walks on with Sarah following. He stops and points with his stick.
DOCTOR: Door.
He is pointing to one of the pots with the Egyptian god heads. He holds up his sonic screwdriver.
DOCTOR: Key.
SARAH: As simple as that?
DOCTOR: No, not, really.
SARAH: No. Didn't think it could be.
They walk over to the pot, the Doctor prodding the ground with his stick.
DOCTOR: No obvious booby-traps.
He gets down and throws away his stick. Sarah stands behind him, and watches as he changes the settings on the sonic screwdriver. Then nothing happens for a few seconds.
DOCTOR: Are you going to help, or are you just going to stand there and admire the scenery?
SARAH: Your shoes need repairing.
Sarah gets down.
SARAH: (Annoyed) And I actually wasn't admiring the scenery. I was waiting for you to tell me what to do.
DOCTOR: Just hold the base. I don't want it to fall.
SARAH: Dangerous?
DOCTOR: Very dangerous.
Sarah reaches out to sturdy the bottom of the pot, and the Doctor turns on the sonic screwdriver. There is a high-pitched whine that gets louder and turns into a sort of siren-sound. the Doctor stop his sonic screwdriver and wipes his face with his necktie.
DOCTOR: Deactivating a generator-loop without the correct key... is like repairing a watch with a hammer and chisel. One false move and you'll never know the time again.
SARAH: Any more comforting thoughts?
DOCTOR: Yes. You must let me know if it starts to get warm.
He turns on the sonic screwdriver again.
SARAH: Don't worry. You'll hear me breaking the sound barrier!

There is something silver inside, which he takes out. It's almost cylindrical, with a rounded top that has a little loop on it, and a band of Egyptian-style markings on the bottom. He unscrews the bottom, and removes it. It is connected to some kind of machinery. He puts it in his pocket and he and Sarah smile at each other.
DOCTOR: Just to make sure... Come on.
They get up and walk off.

Scene 11 - The Organ-Room
Sutekh is talking to Marcus from the sarcophagus.
SUTEKH: It is clear that an extraterrestrial intelligence is operating.
MARCUS: An alien?
SUTEKH: Ohh... I have endured an eternity of darkness and impudence. I shall not be denied now... Listen to my orders.
MARCUS: I hear you, master.
SUTEKH: The missile must be guarded. Two servicers must maintain constant vigilance.
MARCUS: It shall be as you say.
Scene 12 - Sutekh's Tomb
SUTEKH: Once the missile is projected, you will seek out and destroy my enemies. The alien who dares to intrude, the humans... animals, birds, fish, reptiles! All life is my enemy! All life shall perish under the reign of Sutekh the Destroyer!
Marcus's face is on the screen.
MARCUS: Only Sutekh shall live!
Scene 13 - The Woods
There is a small hut under the trees, belonging to Clemence, the poacher. Sarah and the Doctor come out of the bushes and go up to the door. The Doctor starts trying to unlock it.
SARAH: Just how powerful is Sutekh, Doctor?
DOCTOR: He's all-powerful. If he ever gets free, there isn't a life-form in the galaxy that could stand against him.
SARAH: Well, not even your lot, the Timelords?
DOCTOR: Not even our lot.
He unlocks the door and opens it.
Scene 14 - The Hut
The Doctor and Sarah walk in.
DOCTOR: Sutekh was only defeated in the end by the combines might of seven-hundred and forty of his fellow Osirans led by Horus.
SARAH: The seven-hundred and forty gods, whose names were recorded in the tomb of Titmosa the Third.
DOCTOR: Could be.
Sarah bends down and opens a little hutch.
DOCTOR: I wouldn't do that if I were you. Could be a ferret.
Sarah pulls her hand out of the hutch in an instant with cry, and then gives the Doctor an annoyed look and puts her hands on her hips. She sighs and closes it.

DOCTOR: (Alarmed) Ah!
SARAH: Well what's the matter? Not enough?
DOCTOR: Sweaty gelignite is highly unstable. One good sneeze could set it off.
He lowers the box carefully. Sarah watches him nervously, and looks as though she doesn't know what she should say.
SARAH: Sorry.
DOCTOR: No sigh of any detonators of fuses?

MARCUS: Brother?
LAURENCE: Your brother, Laurence.
MARCUS: As Horus was brother to Sutekh?
Laurence looks upset.
LAURENCE: Marcus, you're ill. Let me help you!
He reaches out and Marcus throws his hand off.
LAURENCE: Trust me!
MARCUS: Trust you?
Laurence looks around franctically and runs to get a picture to show Marcus.
LAURENCE: Look! You and I, when we were boys.
Marcus seems to remember somehow.
MARCUS: Laurence, and Marcus.
LAURENCE: That's right. You do remember!
Marcus seems to be struggling against a strong power.
MARCUS: I was Marcus.
LAURENCE: You still are. Now, let me help you!
MARCUS: (Uncertainly) No, I am Sutekh!
LAURENCE: No! No! You went to Egypt a-and - and fell under some sort of mesmeric influence! That's all!
MARCUS: (Almost disbelievingly) Sutekh, the great destroyer. Sutekh, the lord of death. I am his instrument!
LAURENCE: (Forcefully) Now, that's all nonsense! You are Marcus Scarman, professor of Archeology, fellow of all souls, member of the -
The shouting has brought Marcus back to Sutekh. He reaches up and knocks the picture out of Laurence's hands.
MARCUS: What do you know of Sutekh?!
Laurence looks at him, horrified.
MARCUS: Where are the others?
He starts to corner Laurence against the wall.
LAURENCE: Others?
MARCUS: You are being helped. Sutekh has detected an alien intelligence amongst the humans here.
LAURENCE: Do you mean the Doctor?

DOCTOR: (Whispering) Should be safe there for the moment.
SARAH: Look, this isn't going to work. You've got no detonators, no fuses, so even if you managed to place the charge without being spotted, how do we explode it?
DOCTOR: I don't know yet.

SARAH: Doct -
The Doctor turns as Laurence's body rolls onto him. He checks for a pulse and looks up solemnly.
DOCTOR: Strangled.
SARAH: The mummies!
DOCTOR: Not this time - there are marks. His late brother must have called.
He turns back to the mummy, rolling Laurence's body away.
SARAH: That's horrible!
She kneels by the Doctor, looking at the body.
SARAH: He was so concerned about his brother.
DOCTOR: Well I told him not to be. I told him it was too late.
SARAH: (Upset) Oh, sometimes you just don't seem -
She stops in mid-sentence. The Doctor continues working with the mummy.
DOCTOR: Human?
There is a few moments' pause while he looks at the mummy.
DOCTOR: Typical Osiran simplicity.
SARAH: (Shocked and upset) A man has just been murdered!
DOCTOR: Four men, Sarah. Five, if you include Professor Scarman himself. And they're merely the first of millions unless Sutekh is stopped.
Sarah looks up ssadly.
DOCTOR: Know thine enemy - admirable advice.
SARAH: Yes.
The Doctor is piling up the bandages from the mummy. He gets up, holding a bunch.
DOCTOR: If we're gonna do anything about that missile, we're going to have to move quickly. I'll need your help.
He crosses the room, and Sarah gets up.
SARAH: (Tearfully) What do you want me to do?
The Doctor throws down some of the bandages and looks at what he's still holding.
DOCTOR: These bindings are chemically impregnated to protect the robots against damage and corrosion.

DOCTOR: I shall mingle with the mummies, but I shan't linger.
Sarah tucks in one more end, and then stands back with her hands on her hips.
SARAH: Okay. That'll have to do.
DOCTOR: How do I look?
Sarah gets a mischievous look on her face.
SARAH: Must've been a nasty accident.
DOCTOR: (Annoyed) Don't provoke me.
Sarah puts her hands up, rolls her eyes, and goes to the fireplace to get the rifle.

DOCTOR: Do you know what to do?
Sarah opens the box of ammunition and takes some out.
SARAH: Yep. Give you time to get clear, then 'pow'!
She gets up and starts to load the gun.
DOCTOR: Make sure you shoot straight. You won't get time for a second shot.
SARAH: Don't worry. I know what I'm doing.

The Doctor turns.
Sarah hides behind the gate.
Marcus comes up to the Doctor.
MARCUS: Is your relay damaged? This is the coordinate selector.
He holds up the silver cylinder.
MARCUS: This is to be placed in the projection dome monitor. Indicate your understanding.
The Doctor nods, and he hands it to him.
MARCUS: Then obey your order.
The Doctor walks away.
Sarah watches him.

DOCTOR: You did.
Sarah looks up, surprised to see him there.
DOCTOR: Sutekh is containing the explosion.
She gets up.
SARAH: (Whispered) How?
DOCTOR: Mental power. There's only one hope left. Got to get to him; break his concentration.
The Doctor turns and walks off, followed by Sarah.

MARCUS: I hear you, master.
The Doctor runs into the doorway, and then darts back out of sight, although his scarf is still sticking out.
SUTEKH: (Painfully) On the missile loading ramp - a crude detonation device. It must be removed immediately.
MARCUS: Another human attempt to prevent your return? They'll be caught! And punished!
The Doctor sneaks in and hides behind a curtain.
SUTEKH: The device - I cannot hold back the exothermic reaction for many minutes. It is taking an intense toll of available energy. Attend to the device first!
MARCUS: It will be done immediately, master.
Marcus bows and goes out again, and the sarcophagus stops glowing. The Doctor comes out from his hiding place and goes up to it, slowly and carefully. He opens the door to the tunnel, and kneels in front of it, then he gets up and steps into it, and is carried through it.

DOCTOR: Just destroy me, Sutekh. Nothing else now is left within your power.
SUTEKH: Identify yourself. It is within my power to choose the manner of you death.
His eyes glows again with the hiss, and the Doctor yells and puts his hands to his head.
SUTEKH: I can, if I choose, keep you alive for centuries, racked by the most excruciating pain. Since you interference has condemned me forever to remain a prisoner in the Eye of Horus, it would be a fitting end. You would make an amusing diversion.
He lets the Doctor go again.
SUTEKH: Identify yourself, plaything of Sutekh.
DOCTOR: I am a traveler.
SUTEKH: From where?
DOCTOR: Galifrey, in the constellation of Kastoborus.
SUTEKH: Names mean nothing. What is the binary location from Galactic Zero Center?
DOCTOR: Ten zero zero eleven zero zero by zero two.
SUTEKH: And of the planet, data retrieval.
He turns to a oanel on the wall, which lights up. he looks back to the Doctor.
SUTEKH: So, you are a Timelord.
DOCTOR: I renounced the Societ of Timelords. Now, I'm simply a traveler.
SUTEKH: In time and space?
The Doctor doesn't answer.
SUTEKH: (Sternly) In time and space?
He flashes his eyes at the Doctor, who cries out, again.
DOCTOR: Yes! Yes!
Sutekh releases him.
SUTEKH: Ah. Approach closer.
The Doctor walks towards him.
SUTEKH: What are you called, Timelord?
DOCTOR: Doctor.
SUTEKH: I offer you an alliance, Doctor. Serve me, truly, and an empire can be yours.
The Doctor shakes his head.
DOCTOR: Serve you, Sutekh? Your name is abominated in every civilized world, whether that name be Set, Satan, Saddos -
SUTEKH: Serve me, Doctor.
DOCTOR: Never!
Sutekh holds him in pain with his eyes again with a growl of pleasure.
SUTEKH: (Laughing) You pit your puny word against mine? Kneel.
He forces the Doctor to bend.
DOCTOR: No!
SUTEKH: Kneel before the might of Sutekh!
The Doctor is pushed to his knees.
SUTEKH: in my presence, you are an ant, a termite. Abase yourself, you groveling insect!
The Doctor is forced to bow to him.
The Organ sounds, and Marcus appears on the screen. Two mummies are behind him.
SUTEKH: Well, speak.
MARCUS: Sutekh, great master, the servicers have found one of the humans responsible for the destruction of the missile.
DOCTOR: Their leader is my prisoner, Scarman. I have no interest in the humans.
MARCUS: Then, this one can be destroyed?

He moves his hand, and the mummy drops Sarah.
Scene 4 - Sutekh's Tomb
The Doctor still kneels before Sutekh.
SUTEKH: You are a Timelord. What interest have you in humans?
DOCTOR: All sapient lifeforms are out kith, Sutekh.
SUTEKH: Horus held that view. I refute it.
DOCTOR: Because you fear that other intelligent lifeforms may grow to rival you in power. So you kill all life wherever you find it.
SUTEKH: (Laughing) Your argument is a cloud. But I see through it into your mind. The human girl - she travels with you.
A picture of the TARDIS in the Mummy-Room appears on the screen. The Doctor is shocked.
DOCTOR: If you can do that by mental force, Sutekh, then nothing can be beyond you.
SUTEKH: Nothing, except to free myself from the Eye of Horus.
DOCTOR: You use your powers for evil!
SUTEKH: Evil? Your evil is my good. I am Sutekh the Destroyer. Where I tread, I leave nothing but dust, and darkness. I find that good.
DOCTOR: Then I curse you, Sutekh, in the name of all Nature. You are a twisted abhorrence!
Sutekh's eyes glow at him again, pinning his to the floor as he cries out.
SUTEKH: Any further insolence, Doctor, and I shall shred your nervous system into a million fibers. Is that understood?

SARAH: (Whispered) TARDIS key!

The key drops into Marcus's hand.
SUTEKH: Take one servicer, and travel to the Pyramid of Mars.
Scene 6 - Sutekh's Tomb
DOCTOR: You won't find that possible, Sutekh.
SUTEKH: Scarman is my puppet; my mind is in his.
DOCTOR: the controls of the TARDIS are isomorphic.
SUTEKH: One-to-one; they answer to you alone?
DOCTOR: Yes.
SUTEKH: Then I was wise to spare you. My mind is in yours.
The Doctor gets up, staring blankly, as if he has been hypnotized. He crosses his arms on his chest.
DOCTOR: Master.
SUTEKH: Scarman.
Scene 6 - The Organ-Room
MARCUS: Master?
SUTEKH: I send you the Timelord. He will control the machine. The human girl will accompany you. If the Timelord shows the slightest sign of self-will, kill her...
Sarah looks up is fear.
SUTEKH: ... immediately.
MARCUS: It is understood, Great One.
The Doctor comes through the tunnel. As he reaches the end, Sarah jumps up and runs towards him.
SARAH: Doctor, what's happened?
MARCUS: Stand back!
One of the mummies grabs her shoulder painfully. She steps back, with it still holding her.
MARCUS: He is possessed by the Great One. (To the Doctor) Whom do you serve, Timelord?
The Doctor's eyes are looking straight up.
DOCTOR: Sutekh.
MARCUS: Who holds all life in his hands?
DOCTOR: Sutekh.
MARCUS: Who is the bringer of death?
DOCTOR: Sutekh.
MARCUS: Venerate his name and obey him in all things.
The Doctor crosses his hands on his chest.
DOCTOR: Sutekh is supreme.
Sarah is horrified.
SARAH: (Whispered) No!
MARCUS: Control is established, Great One.
SUTEKH: It is well. But the Timelords are a perfidious species. Dispose of him when you have reached Pyramid of Mars.

Marcus looks around again and then walks over to the wall and makes some kind of sign with his hands. A panel in the wall opens to reveal a second chamber, with glowing walls. He turns around as the door closes.
MARCUS: (To the mummy) Sutekh has no further need for the Timelord. Destroy him.
SARAH: No!
Sarah reaches up to stop the mummy from strangling the Doctor, but she is not strong enough. The Doctor falls to the ground and she kneels by him. The mummy turns to Marcus.
MARCUS: (To the Mummy) Come.
He and the mummy walk out. Sarah is left next to the Doctor.
SARAH: (Whispered) Doctor.
She listens for his hearts one by one, but there is no sound. She starts to cry and puts her face onto the Doctor's chest. A hand taps her on the head. She turns around with a cry of surprise.
DOCTOR: You're soaking my shirt.
She turns back to the Doctor.
SARAH: (Relieved)Oh! You're alive!
She helps him up by the head.
DOCTOR: Respiratory bypass system.
He rubs his neck.
DOCTOR: Useful in a tight squee - where are we?
SARAH: Um, Pyramid of Mars.
DOCTOR: Of course. Sutekh sent Scarman here to deactivate the -
He pauses as if realizing something.
DOCTOR: pyramid. Where is he?
SARAH: I thought you'd become a zombie like Scarman.
DOCTOR: Sutekh didn't need me anymore, so he relaxed his grip. Noiw, did you see where Scarman went?
Sarah nods.
SARAH: Through that door.
She points to where Marcus and the mummies had gone out. There is no door.
SARAH: It's vanished!
DOCTOR: Can't have vanished! It's just not visible.

DOCTOR: That's too obvious.
SARAH: What is?
DOCTOR: That is.
He points to the switch with his thumb. Sarah puts her hands on her hips.
SARAH: Well a door handle usually is.
DOCTOR: Not in a jail.
He looks around and walks over to where the panel is, examining the wall.
DOCTOR: Horus would've laid traps for the unwary.
SARAH: Oh, I though Horus was one of the good guys.
He looks at her.
DOCTOR: He was an Osiran, with all their guile and ingenuity... Ah!
He finds the panel and opens it, then wipes his hands together.
DOCTOR: They had dome-shaped heads.
He presses the button and the door opens.
DOCTOR: And cerebrums like spiral staircases. Come on.
They go into the next chamber and the door closes behind them.

Marcus finds the shape.
SUTEKH: Press.
Marcus presses it.
Sarah and the Doctor walk in but see the mummy in front of them and turn out again.
MARCUS: (To the mummy) Come.
The mummy goes off after him, and the Doctor walks in with Sarah following. they stop when they see the tiled wall and look at it, bewildered.
SARAH: It's like a Chinese puzzle!
DOCTOR: Yes.
He walks over to the colored tiles while Sarah looks at the others.
DOCTOR: And there's a key.
Sarah walks over.
SARAH: Oh, some key! Do you know what it means?
DOCTOR: Yes. Obviously the length of lines provide the scale of measurement.
SARAH: Yeah, reminds of of city of the Exxilons.
The Doctor looks at his scarf.
DOCTOR: Don't touch anything.
SARAH: I wasn't going to!
DOCTOR: Well, don't!
SARAH: I -
DOCTOR: One false move and we could be blown to perdition.
Sarah folds her arms. The Doctor is turning over his scarf and examining it.
DOCTOR: Feet and inches one side, meters and centimeters the other. Let's see..
He holds it up to the tiles in a few different ways and stands back.
DOCTOR: A hundred and twenty point three centimeters... multiplied by the binary figure ten zero zero...
Sarah is staring at him, surprised at this math.
DOCTOR: That's a hundred and sixty-two point four centimeters, correct?
He looks at Sarah.
SARAH: Show off!
She smiles to herself, and the Doctor walks off to the other square of tiles.
DOCTOR: Hundred and sixty-two point four - that's about seven stitches.
He holds up the scarf to the puzzle and Sarah skips to behind him. After taking some measurements he pushes Sarah further behind him.
DOCTOR: In case I'm wrong.
Sarah puts her head down and the Doctor presses the shape. She looks up and smiles to see the door opening.
DOCTOR: I'm right.
He grins, and they go out.

DOCTOR: (Whispered) A decadron crucible!
Sarah bangs on the side of the tube with her fists but there is no sound.
DOCTOR: Keep calm!
Sarah points to her ears, shaking her head.
DOCTOR: Keep calm!
He tries to imply the words with his hands.

X. She realizes what the word is and lifts her hands in a sarcastic gesture of calmness. The Doctor turns his face away from her.
DOCTOR: (In horror) I can't do it... I can't do it...
Suddenly two mummies with gold sashes appears behind them, and a voice speaks out of nowhere.
VOICE: Intruders...
The Doctor looks up and Sarah looks around to see where the voice comes from.
VOICE: ... you face the Twin Guardians of Horus.
Sarah gets up and turns to see the mummies.
VOICE: One is programmed to deceive; the other points truly. The two switches control your fate.
The Doctor gets up and he and Sarah look down at two red switches on the bottom of the tube.
VOICE: Instant freedom or instant death.
Sarah looks at the Doctor in fear.
VOICE: before you choose, you can ask one Guardian one question. This is the Riddle of the Osirans. Which is the Guardian of Life
DOCTOR: Which indeed? They're both contra-programmed so that one will always give a false indication.
He goes over to the Guardians and Sarah turns to watch him.
DOCTOR: One question...
He lifts his hand and points it at the far Guardian, and then changes his mind and moves his hand to the other one.
DOCTOR: If I were to ask your fellow Gaurdian the question, which switch would he indicate?
The Guardian lifts its right arm, and the Doctor looks down at the switches.
DOCTOR: I see. So if you're the true guardian, that must be the death switch. And if your the automatic liar, you'd be trying to mislead me, so that must still be the death switch. Therefore...
He puts his finger in the air and walks over to the cylinder, crouching by the switches. Sarah watches nervously. The Doctor points at the left switch.
DOCTOR: ... this has to be the one we want.
He presses it and the cylinder disappears. Sarah whirls around as the Doctor grabs her hand.
DOCTOR: Come on! Come on!
He pulls her after him down the corridor.

MARCUS: Stand back! Deactivate!
The Guardian keeps coming. A voice comes out of nowhere.
VOICE: My servitors obey only the voice of Horus.
The mummy and the Guardian begin to fight.
VOICE: Drive out the intruders.
While the mummy and Guardian fight, Marcus goes over to the Eye of Horus. Suddenly his face turns into the same one that Sarah saw in the TARDIS before, and Sutekh speaks from him.
SUTEKH: Destroy! Destroy!
The ball of glass explodes. Just as it does, the Doctor and Sarah rush in. There is the sound of a wind blowing.
SUETKH: (In Marcus's body) Free!
Marcus's face turns back to his own.
MARCUS: I'm free! Free, at last!
He collapses and disintegrates into a black dust that slowly disappears. The Doctor and Sarah stand in the doorway, looking shocked.
SARAH: He's won! Sutekh's won!
The Doctor turns suddenly and sees all the door they've just gone through opening on their own. The TARDIS is at the end of them.
DOCTOR: No!
Sarah looks up at him.
DOCTOR: The time factor!
SARAH: Wh -

DOCTOR: Come on! Run!
SARAH: Doctor!

DOCTOR: We've got about twenty seconds.
They watch as the sarcophagus becomes the tunnel of colors. Sutekh appears at the far end of it.
DOCTOR: Here he comes...
Sutekh is at the point of entering the room. Sarah leans back as the Doctor turns a dial on the machine.
SUTEKH: Who dares to interfere?
Sarah comes forwards again.
DOCTOR: You're caught in a temporal trap, Sutekh.
Sutekh is not coming any closer.
SUTEKH: Timelord. I shall destroy you. I shall destroy you!
DOCTOR: How long do Osirans live, Sutekh?
SUTEKH: Release me.
DOCTOR: Ever. You're caught in the corridor of eternity.
SUTEKH: Release me, insect, or I shall destroy the cosmos!
DOCTOR: You're a thousand years beyond the twentieth century, now, Sutekh... Go on for another ten thousand.
SUTEKH: I'll spare the planet Earth! I'll give it to you as a plaything! Release me!
Sutekh starts to go farther and farther away in the tunnel.
DOCTOR: No, Sutekh. the time of the Osirans is long passed.
SUETKH: (Drawn-out) No!
DOCTOR: Go.
Sutekh fades away.
DOCTOR: He lived about seven thousand years.
SARAH: He's dead. Sutekh is dead.
She hits the floor with her hand as she speaks. She looks at the Doctor.
DOCTOR: At last.
The Doctor looks thoughtful and Sarah sighs. She points at the machine.
SARAH: Look, I know that's the time control from the TARDIS, but what did you do?
DOCTOR: I moved the threshold of the time-space tunnel into the far future. He could never have reached the end... After the Eye was broken, I realized that we had little more than two minutes to get back here.
SARAH: But h -
DOCTOR: The time radio waves take to pass from Mars to Earth.
Sarah smiles.
SARAH: Ohh, so the Eye of Horus was still holding Sutekh for two minutes after it was broken.
She leans back against the stairs.
DOCTOR: Yes!
He gets up, and she laughs. He goes up the stairs.
DOCTOR: You know the Egyptians called him the Typhonian Beast.
Sarah gets up and turns around.
SARAH: Doctor!
The Sarcophagus bursts into flames behind him. He jumps and looks at it.
DOCTOR: That was careless of me. I forgot the thermal balance would equalize.
SARAH: Listen. This priory was burnt to the ground, remember?
DOCTOR: Yes. Perhaps it is time we were leaving.
He picks up his machine.
DOCTOR: We don't want to be blamed for starting a fire, do we?
SARAH: No.
He goes down the stairs.
DOCTOR: We had enough of that in 1666.
He laughs.
SARAH: What?
